Starting a Business

Entrepreneurship and Innovation are key skills that we are working to develop in our communities, but taking these ideas from the abstract to the concrete is even more important. At the development corporation, we want to make sure you have the resources to start your business in Kansas. We can help you work with local, regional, and state organizations in order to ensure that your business has the greatest potential for growth.

Transform Your Business!

through Jon Schallert's

Destination Creation Course!

You work hard to make your business a success, and we want to help you maximize those efforts by incorporating proven strategies to grow your business. Jon Schallert's Destination University has been revolutionizing small businesses around the country for more than twenty years, transforming small shops into destinations that draw customers from hours away.  You can learn to do the same.

Whether your business is retail or service, whether you've had an established brick-and-mortar store for thirty years or you've been making and selling products from your garage, we can help. Simply put, if you rely on customers, Destination Creation will help improve your relationship with your existing clientele and build a business that draws more people to you.

Classes are offered quarterly. Call or stop by to learn more or to enroll in the next course.

Ice House Entrepreneurship Program

Through support from Network Kansas and the Kauffman Foundation, the Seward County Development Corporation and its certified facilitator can offer you the tools to change the way you view the world. Entrepreneurship is more than starting a business; it is more than inventing a product; entrepreneurship is "the pursuit of opportunities that create value for others."

This course, built on the book Who Owns the Ice House? Eight Life Lessons from an Unlikely Entrepreneur by Clifton Taulbert and Gary Schoeniger, can help you and your employees approach problems as if they were opportunities and move from ideas to action. Classes are offered throughout the year, so stay connected if you want to be part of the next cohort.
